New Year Fatigue - Already?! Antidote Inside (Part 2.)

You don't have to make radical changes to create the change you want in 2021, but you can ask yourself this...

First, a quick word about New Year resolutions, because there's nothing like a spanking new calendar on the wall to get the resolution juices flowing! And, I have to say, there's nothing like a rehashed New Year's resolution list to make me audibly groan. You know the resolutions I'm talking about: This year I'm going to... get healthier, eat better, drink less, exercise more and...so the well-worn list continues.

Can I tell you something? I'm really bored with those kind of New Year resolutions.

Why? Because, oftentimes, they just don't hit the heart. In other words, they tend to come from the mind; they are things we feel we "should" do or must change.

So unless you have Rambo-like resolve, it's like trying to power your car with positive thoughts rather than actual fuel.

That's why those types of resolutions often have as much staying power as cheap sticky tape! (Fervent festive gift wrappers will know exactly what I'm talking about with that analogy.) That's not to say that eating healthier or drinking less aren't worthy pursuits. But let's dig a little deeper, chances are you're eating crappy food, drinking too many glasses of vino or continually getting sick because there is a part of you that feels a little (or A LOT) stifled, unexpressed, neglected, misunderstood or just damn pissed off! That's why in Part 1. of this blog I asked you to join me and challenge yourself (don't worry, no jogging or push-ups required) to answer this ONE simple question:

ASK sign on the street

WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP?

Whether you're looking for holistic New Year resolution ideas and tips, or, you're wanting more insight in how to stay healthy in 2021 and the best way to make healthier life choices, I urge you to ask yourself this one revealing question.

In case your mind's playing hide-and-seek with you, here are a few clues and prompts for discovering "What Lights You Up" so you can create the change you want in 2021, minus the "get healthy" clichés:

  • What's that one thing you've always wanted to make time for, but haven't yet been able to?

  • What's that thing you hear yourself say over and over again to friends, family or colleagues? (E.g. "I'd love to learn how to..." or "I've always thought I'd be really good at..." or "Ever since I was a little girl/boy I've wanted to...")

  • Fill in the blank: "I wish I had time to..." or "When I'm doing ... I completely lose track of time" or "I stop obsessively thinking or worrying when I..."

  • Ponder these questions: What flyers are you drawn to on local noticeboards? What magazine articles excite you? What FB pages or forums do you have to pull yourself away from so you can get some work done? What's the theme with all the social media pages you like?

!MUST-DO! next step: Don't just keep it in your head, stuck up there in the thought clouds, tell someone you trust, write it down, stick it on the fridge, make it your screen saver and repeat it to yourself daily. MOST importantly, schedule it in your calendar and treat it with as much respect as you would an *unmissable* appointment.

So much life-enhancing info is available to us these days, but info is just words on a page or a voice in your ear unless you take action on it and consciously make it a part of your daily life.

A person with foot up in the air

Psst! This is what makes me beam and what I'll be doing a lot more of in 2021...

  • Bodywork: My body really sings when I receive bodywork, such as massage, osteopathy, dry needling or energy-based healing modalities, so I'm scheduling in regular ongoing treatments, starting from...now!

  • Dance, music and movement: 80s dance hits here I come! (The daggier the dance moves the better, I say.) This was something I initiated last year, but I didn't do anywhere near as much as I'd like, so it's time to hit repeat!

  • Creative writing for myself, with no agenda or pressure or expectation; writing purely for the joy of creating. :-)

Your turn: What would you like to incorporate more of in your life? Send an email to hello@laurenjoywilson.com and let me know, so I can cheer you on!

Keep listening to your body and trusting your wise self,

Lauren x
