I'm not overly into perky positive affirmations, but something happened the other day and it got me thinking...
I was sitting with Mum having a cuppa on the veranda, and I was stuck in one of those "future funks" (my cute way of describing the not-so cute situation where you're obsessing about future possibilities).
Mum had that familiar knowing look in her eye, and before she opened her mouth, I knew what was coming my way.
"Lauren: 'You can always cope with the Now, but you can never cope with the future - nor do you have to. The answer, the strength, the right action, or the resource will be there when you need it, not before, not after.'"
Good ol' Eckhart Tolle, author of The Power of Now, strikes again!
Mum - an avid collector of sayings, quotes and writings that stir her poetic heart and fuel her child-like imagination - can always be relied on to deliver an apt saying when I most need it and, I have to say, often when I least feel like it (initially that is).
Because there's something about hearing TRUTH that can immediately snap you out of one of those "what-if traps" or pull you back when your mind gets caught up in the pain of the past or the fear of the future.
So, I'm curious... What's your favourite saying, affirmation or quote that acts like an instant truth pill, makes you smile or gives you comfort when you need it most?
It can be from a movie, a book or a song. It can be spiritual, inspirational, quirky or funny. It might be the screen saver on your PC or a magnet stuck on your fridge. Perhaps it's some old-school wisdom from your mum, dad, grandma or grandpa that lives on in you. And if you've created your own, I'd love to hear that too.
Whatever it is, email hello@laurenjoywilson.com and let me know:
Your favourite quote or self affirmation
When it's most helpful to you &/ why you love it so much
*You're welcome to include a pic of it too
I thought it would be really fun to share some of your responses in my next blog; a cool way to pass on the wisdom baton and expand our collective keep-calm repertoire!
To kick-start the quote kickoff, here's one of my favourites:
When I feel like things aren't working out or that life should be different to what it is, I look at this quote...
"Wherever you are in this moment is exactly where you are supposed to be no matter how things may seem to appear." Adele Basheer
I can't wait to read your responses! Email your reply to hello@laurenjoywilson.com
Keep listening to your body and trusting your wise self,
Lauren x
P.S. Here's a pic of the quote I mentioned above... I've had this quote with me since my early 20s (it's laminated and everything!), and I re-discover it regularly, as it seems to pop-up in random places around the house. Reading this quote never fails to give me one of those peaceful "ah" moments. I hope it does the same for you. :-)
