This week, I'm going to do something I don't usually do - write very little! Instead, I'm going to let the quotes and YOU do the talking.
In my last blog I put the call out for quirky sayings, truth pills & stress-less affirmations.
Here are your cool and VERY varied responses, including some 80s pop lyrics and a cult classic!
Thank you so much to those who hopped on the wisdom conveyor and shared their quote gems.
Scroll through and see if some of your fave positive affirmations appear, or, perhaps you'll find a new go-to mantra that really resonates for how you're feeling right now.
Enjoy! :-)
Here's what YOU have to say about inspirational mantras, daily self affirmations, cool quotes & quirky sayings that help to improve your mindset or boost your motivation:
Glen's inspirational blackboard affirmation...
This hand-drawn quote takes centre stage in my family kitchen.
The blackboard is regularly updated depending on what's happening in our lives and what's going to be the most inspirational thing for us to see each morning.
My kids really love seeing what the next quote will be!
This is a pic of our current blackboard quote:
"We can't direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails." (Thomas S. Monson)
Karen's simple stress-less saying & car-singing 80s classic...
When I start to want to get something perfect or I've slumped, because I've over-thought something, then I tense up, and my flow stops. This saying reminds me that a good belly laugh is an instant diffuser:
"Don't take life too seriously."
It's also what I'd say to my younger self.
And I can't go past Spandau Ballet's Gold: "Always believe in your soul, You've got the power to know, You're indestructible, Always believing, You are gold..." When I put this song on in the car it's an instant lift!

Rob's motivational sayings...
I don't really do quotes per se. I'm more into songs for moods, thoughts and feelings. But then I thought of "Carpe diem - Seize The Day" (Horace) and "Who dares wins!" (Sir David Stirling). The mottos of the SAS were the ones to get me out of my reverie.
Another favourite saying of mine is (drum roll, please): "You don't know what you don't know." (Socrates)
I think it's a priceless ditty for educators, coaches and, well, everyone! To be honest, I use it a lot! Great leveller and de-stressor.
Jessica's playful childhood quote & mum mantras...
One of my all-time favs is a Dr Seuss quote: "You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So...get on your way!"
The other is a "being a mum" one I saw somewhere and totally felt it! It goes like this: "I know you're exhausted mama. But there's nowhere safer than your arms and I don't know how to say 'thank you for picking me up when you could barely pick up yourself.'"
For a long one that I often go back and read is Desiderata by Max Ehrmann. Love it! "Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence..." (Click here to continue reading this poem.)
A little mantra I often find myself saying quietly is: "You are enough."
Paul's passed-down wisdom & quirky movie quote...
My dad was a conundrum. He was not highly educated, but very intelligent and I always listened to him when he offered advice. His most memorable saying to me was: "You can always learn off any fool."
This always comes into my mind when I am talking to people, because I am amazed at how many times I have learnt things by having no judgement, an open mind and listening to what the other person has to say.
One of my favourite movies is The Rocky Horror Show and one of the memorable lines in it is when Brad and Janet knock on the castle door, dripping wet. The door is opened by Riff Raff and he says to Janet in his creepy voice, "You're all wet." Janet looks at him for a few seconds and then replies, "Yes... It's Raining." I love the look on her face that implies that Riff Raff is simple minded and stating the obvious.
To finish off, I thought I'd share a few of my mojo mantras and go-to sayings...
When I want to hop off the mental merry-go-round or when I'm perfectionist procrastinating, I love Marie Forleo's get-to-it mantras, such as: "Clarity comes through engagement not thought" or "Progress not perfection." (How true is that? Just take one small step forward, and then repeat.)
For some old-school wisdom, I think of my nan, Sylvia. She often said this timeless saying: "This too shall pass." She also liked to say: "Marry in haste, repent at leisure." This may or may not have been directed at my parents at the time. ;-))
And, because I just can't help myself when it comes to injecting a little of the whimsical and fantastical into everyday life, here's one of my favourite Alice in Wonderland quotes that always puts a smile on my face and reminds me to celebrate my quirkiness and inimitable self.
(It also reminds me of the Mad Hatter's Tea Party and makes me want a hot cuppa!)
"You're entirely bonkers! But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are." (Lewis Carroll)
I had so much fun putting this blog together and hearing from you, so feel free to email me at hello@laurenjoywilson.com if you missed out on sharing some of your inspirational self affirmations or funny quote gems.
Hey, perhaps there'll be a Part 3. to this blog quote series, and unlike a lot of those dodgy movie sequels, we'll make sure it just keeps on getting better and better!
Keep listening to your body and trusting your wise self,
Lauren x

P.P.S. I know there's some pretty heavy stuff happening in the world right now - on many levels - so simple sayings may feel a bit frivolous, or even superficial. But amidst the chaos, sometimes we just need a moment to pause; a moment to remember that child-like, untouched part of us that's always ready to smile.
